The DesignLine Double Bass solves one of the biggest everyday challenges for bassists: transport. Developed in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University, this instrument features a detachable neck that reduces the bass to just 120 cm in overall length within minutes – fitting into virtually any car. At the same time, the carbon fiber body delivers a warm, carrying sound that convinces both in orchestral arco playing and jazz pizzicato.

Detachable Neck

An engineered plug-in connection allows quick removal of the neck – no tools, no play, no loss of vibration transfer. When assembled, the neck sits rock-solid. When detached, the instrument reduces to 120 cm in overall length. No specialist transport, no freight service – the bass fits in the boot of your car.

Sound

The DesignLine Double Bass delivers a warm, deep foundation with pronounced overtone richness – a tonal profile that surprises those who expect a cool character from carbon fiber.

• Arco: Carries in the orchestra with a full, singing tone. Clean response even in the lowest positions.
• Pizzicato: Defined attack with natural sustain – cuts through in a jazz ensemble.
• Response: Extremely easy to play. The instrument reacts directly, without the resistance many wooden basses show in the lower registers.

Surface

The double bass is available exclusively in DesignLine finish: manufactured using a vacuum infusion process, then hand-lacquered, sanded, and polished to a high gloss. The shimmering carbon weave with its three-dimensional depth gives the instrument a stage presence that stands out.

Components

Every DesignLine Double Bass is built, set up, and shipped ready to play from our German workshop:

• Tuning Machines: Rubner individual machines – precise and reliable.
• Fingerboard: Solid ebony – deliberately chosen as the traditional material for a familiar playing feel.
• Strings: D'Addario Helicore, strung to match your playing style: Orchestra, Pizzicato, or Hybrid.
• Scale Length: Standard 105 cm (3/4 size).

Configuration

• 5-String: Available on request as a 5-string model with extended range.
