Cello Bows Arcus/Muesing

The cello makes the highest physical demands on a bow: greater string tension, a longer string length, and a tone that has to fill the room. Modern cello strings with steel and tungsten winding call for a stick that does not give way in forte.

ARCUS and Müsing come from the same workshop in Würzburg. The sticks are hollow, with a wall thickness under one millimetre, which lets them vibrate more freely than a solid stick can. The stick carries a 30 year warranty.

Their natural resonance sits at around 100 Hertz, an octave above classical bows. That is outside the range in which many professional players feel fatigue in hand, arm and shoulder. After a long rehearsal you notice the difference.

ARCUS T series

The all-rounder. Warm and brilliant at once, suits almost any cello. A very stiff stick with less camber: powerful playing with a soft attack. About 71 grams, round stick. T4 to T9.

ARCUS S series

For large, dark sounding instruments, Goffriller or Montagnana models for instance. Brilliant, dynamic, agile. Round stick calmer, octagonal livelier. About 68 grams. S4 to S9.

Müsing C series

If you want to stay close to the sound of a good pernambuco bow. About 75 grams, high stiffness. Classical or ergonomic frog on C3 and C4. C2 to C5.

Müsing L series

With an aluminium head acting as a flywheel. Thinner walls than the C series and therefore freer vibration: more open and more colourful. L3 to L6.
