Carbon Fiber Dbl Bass Bows Arcus/Muesing

The bass bow was the hardest development in the whole range. The deep camber combined with the large stick diameter poses demands that simply do not arise on violin or cello.

ARCUS and Müsing come from the same workshop in Würzburg. The sticks are hollow, with a wall thickness under one millimetre, which lets them vibrate more freely than a solid stick can. The stick carries a 30 year warranty.

Their natural resonance sits at around 100 Hertz, an octave above classical bows. That is outside the range in which many professional players feel fatigue in hand, arm and shoulder. On a bass bow, with its weight, that makes the biggest difference of all.

ARCUS S series

For the double bass ARCUS offers this series only. Open, singing tone, light response, good spiccato. The S6 has been the best-selling ARCUS bass bow for almost two decades. S4 to S9.

German models about 122 grams, French about 112 grams. German S4 to S8 silver and the French S series are regularly available, higher models on request.

Müsing C series

Clear, open tone, light and lively off the string. The C3 is popular with professionals as a second bow, the C5 is the masterpiece of the series. Stainless steel fittings. German about 124 grams, French about 118 grams.

Müsing L series

Clearer, more focused and more colourful than the C series. Same weights. The French models have frogs with a mother-of-pearl eye. L3 to L5.

The number in the model name is not a price tier but the result of an acoustic test. Every stick is classified individually, and only a few reach the upper classes. Which series and which model suits your bass, we can tell you on the phone in five minutes.
