Take it with you.

The mf | core double bass comes apart, and it does so in a way you never notice while playing. That makes it the instrument you still have with you when another bass would have to stay at home.

The travel problem

At home you have solved this. The estate car is outside, the bass goes in the back, that is routine.

The question arises elsewhere. A course in Italy, a tour, an engagement of two months in another city. Normally that leaves you choosing between a freight forwarder with an oversize surcharge and a borrowed instrument you do not know and still have to deliver on.

The neck of this bass comes off, without tools, in a few minutes. Dismantled the instrument measures 120 centimetres. That is a dimension you can travel with.

The joint was developed together with RWTH Aachen University. Assembled, the neck sits absolutely firm, with no play and no loss in vibration transfer. While playing you do not notice that it comes off.

What happens in those four bars

The response comes without resistance, particularly in the low positions where it otherwise costs effort. You start the note and it is there. Doing and feeling sit closer together than you are used to.

Arco, the instrument carries in the orchestra with a full, singing tone and a foundation that brings overtones rather than depth alone. Pizzicato, it gives a defined attack with natural sustain that holds its own acoustically in a jazz ensemble.

What it is made of

Carbon fiber is pure carbon, drawn into filaments seven thousandths of a millimetre across. A material that was reserved for aerospace for decades. We build violins from it.

The body is made by vacuum infusion, in one piece, with no glue seam. Then comes the part you look at every day: sanded, lacquered, sanded again, lacquered again, finally polished by hand. Two full lacquer cycles, each one checked separately.

Over an area this large that counts for a great deal. The shifting pattern gives the instrument a stage presence that gets noticed, and people will ask you about it.
